Drew Armstrong at shopfront gallery

Art Lecturer  Drew Armstrong will be on show at NMTAFE shopfront gallery at 149 Beaufort St, fri 24 May 5-7pm, sat and sun 2-6pm.

Drew uses a potter’s wheel to paint on LP’s, (12 inch vinyl records).

He says, “The record spins at speed and my job is to hold my hand steady , delicately adjusting the pressure of the brush so the paint flows for several rotations. There are combinations of areas of colour, often iridescent, spirals and circles. Overall, the visual effect emphasises reflected light and there is an optical illusion visible when contemplating the finished work. The LP’s were bought at a swap-meet, these vinyls have been upcycled, rather than ending as landfill.”
