Patagraph\Patagram by Hiroshi Kobayashi

PATAGRAPH\PATAGRAM BY HIROSHI KOBAYASHI View 10 -15 Dec, hours: 10am - 5pm NMTAFE Shopfront at 149 Beaufort St, Northbridge   NMTAFE and former PICA artist-in-residence Hiroshi Kobayashi has been scanning readymade and handmade toys in his 3D photobooth for this project, before being painted using his unique Patagraph paint delivery method. He explains: My practice investigates the idea of time/duration and the perception of depth in painting based on digitised photographic images. The invention and design of my own production equipment form an essential part in the creation of my visual forms. Combining a cutting plotter with a pneumatic (pressurized air) dispenser and needle, I mark out vectorized (computerized) paths for the painting of dots onto canvas. I refer to this unique method as Patagraphy. Hiroshi permanently migrated to Perth from Japan in 2016. He was awarded the Distinguished Talent Visa. He has an international training and practice having exhibited in Taipei, Seoul, New York, Tokyo, Washington D.C. and Beijing.   Weblink: HЯSK – Patagraph Patagram (hrsk.com.au)   This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body. In Perth we have had only a few weeks where we have been required to wear masks but the crisis still looms for us … what’s coming next and are we ready? We may be safe now behind this closed border but for how long? Young people are concerned about their education and social lives being disrupted. Others worry about friends and family in shutdown and not being able to travel to connect with them. The Masked exhibition “celebrates” what has become an icon. The exhibition includes work by our art and design lecturers, students, graduates, and some clever high school students.  ...

The Uncommon Cold: A Dog’s Perspective by Sarah Matheson

Shopfront at Gallery Central  21 - 26 June The world is going to the dogs.  Sit. Stay. Wash your paws. Sarah Matheson was studying towards her Advanced Diploma in Creative Product Development when COVID19 arrived in Perth via Corona virus carrying cruise ships. A hard lock down had her pivot her project to a socially distanced approach. Seeking to flatten the curve the original book idea was shelved and The Uncommon Cold was exposed. The Uncommon Cold series results from a view that the only ones benefitting from the new normal were the dogs. What better way to explore the expanding pandemic vocabulary than through the eyes of our canine companions? This exhibition features selected images from the book, The Uncommon Cold: A Dog’s perspective. Sarah Matheson is a Perth based pet photographer.    ...
