Perth International Arts Festival, 6 February – 6 March
Inspired by an Arabic message found in a clear plastic tube wishing an Indonesian fisherman a safe passage on the seas, WA artist Williams has combed Greta Beach on Christmas Island and amassed the plastic flotsam and jetsam washed up from the Indian Ocean. From this detrius, Williams applies her considerable skills to create intricate miniature worlds which invite the viewer to engage with the lives and histories of the Malay and Chinese people who live on this remote island, as well as the refugees who pass by.
